Ha Long Bay

(Note: We left Da Nang yesterday and flew to Hanoi and then drove to Tuam Chau which is where you catch boats to Ha Long Bay.)

Today we went on a boat. It was call Huy Loc. It was big and there was an upstairs where you could see the view. We also saw rocks shaped like a dog, cat and a parrot.

We stopped and went in a large cave full of stalactites and stalagmites. They were amazing.

Then we went to a lagoon and daddy and I went kayaking. I wore a life jacket and got an oar. We travelled under a cave and I learned how to steer, but my arms ached. I enjoyed it.

Then we went to Ti Top Island. I swam in the sea. I swam to the buoy which was the furthest people were allowed to swim. The water was cold but I got used to it.

Then we got the boat back to the marina.

Royal Palace

Today was the Cambodian King’s Coronation Day. This day commemorates the anniversary of the coronation of King Norodom Sihamoni in 2004.

We went to his Palace and it had lots of silver and gold. The palace was beautiful and there were lots of colourful buildings.

We also saw something that looked like the Bayeux Tapestry.

Cu Chi tunnels

We got a really long bus journey then went to the Cu Chi tunnels. It was in a jungle and we first saw some air holes then went down a tunnel. The air holes were made to look like ant or temite mounds. It was very dusty and dark in the tunnels and it got very small in the 1st and 2nd one. They were used during the Vietnam war.

We also saw some traps to trap the American soldiers.

We heard machine guns firing at the shooting range. They were very (x3) loud. Me and Martha sat on a tank!

It was very hot in the jungle and in the tunnels. In one tunnel which we weren’t allow in we saw 2 scorpions and a big spider!

Sports in the morning, Star Ferry in the afternoon

In the morning we caught the bus to see our friend Amandus who we met on the ship to Alaska.

We played football and badminton near his house. Then we went to his sports club and played ping pong. After that I went to his house and held his turtles and they were really fidgety. He also had some big fish, little fish and tadpoles.

Then we went for lunch and we shared a big meaty plate with beef, steak, chicken, pork, chips and gravy.

In the afternoon we went on the Star Ferry to go back home. On the way back we played with giant tic tac shaped inflatables.
